Ambassador's Welcome Message
Message from the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Sultanate of Oman
Welcome to the official page of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Sultanate of Oman. It is with a great pleasure and honor that I extend my warmest greetings to all visitors as we continue to foster and celebrate the long-standing friendship between our two nations.
The ties between the people of Uzbekistan and Oman have deep historical roots, shaped by centuries of cultural and trade exchanges. Our relationship, founded on mutual respect and shared values, has evolved significantly over the years, reinforcing our commitment to peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the region.
The establishment of formal diplomatic relations between our countries on April 22, 1992, marked a key milestone in strengthening our bilateral ties. This paved the way for closer cooperation across various fields of mutual interest. Since then, we have seen remarkable strides in the development of our political, economic, and cultural relations, notably with the opening of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Muscat in 2018. This significant development has bolstered our presence in Oman, facilitating more direct communication and engagement between our governments and peoples.
A cornerstone of our economic relationship is UzOman Investment Company (UOIC), established in 2010 as a joint investment company. UzOman Investment Company plays a vital role in advancing economic cooperation, with investments primarily focused on infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and other key sectors. The Oman Investment Authority (OIA) holds a 75% share in UOIC, while the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan (UFRD) owns the remaining 25%. To this date, over twenty projects have been successfully implemented, demonstrating the strong and promising economic relations between our nations.
In December 2020, an important cooperation agreement was signed between Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and Sultan Qaboos University, further strengthening our educational exchanges. This agreement facilitates opportunities for our students and academics to collaborate and share knowledge, fostering a deeper understanding between our nations.
Cultural cooperation also plays a significant role in strengthening our relationship. In 2018, the Abu al-Rayhan al-Biruni Library was opened in Tashkent, and a delegation from Oman, led by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, when he held the position of Minister of Culture and Heritage, participated in this momentous event. The library, which houses over 26,000 manuscripts and 40,000 rare books, including works by the great scholar Al Biruni, stands as a testament to our shared cultural legacy.
Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan is undertaking large-scale reforms focused on modernizing the country and enhancing international cooperation. As the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan, I will do everything within my capacity to implement the President's initiatives, strengthening bilateral relations with Oman and enhancing Uzbekistan's global standing.
I remain fully committed to further strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two nations, ensuring that our partnership continues to grow and thrive in line with the shared values and aspirations we hold. Our Embassy is here to assist both citizens and visitors of our countries in any way possible, ensuring that our collaboration continues to grow and flourish.
I invite you to stay connected with us through this platform and join us as we continue to build upon the rich history of our partnership, exploring new opportunities for mutual benefit in trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange.
With my best wishes,
Khatamov Abdusalom Kurbonovich
Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Sultanate of Oman
